Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the need for PPE

As this terrible virus continues to run riot around the world it is placing an enormous strain on the NHS. One thing that has become clearly apparent is the lack of PPE for not just the NHS staff on the front line but care workers in homes across the country. AMS have been approached by many of our education customers, primarily by schools who are of course still open for the children of key workers and special needs. They are eager to help in any way that they can and many are producing their own PPE equipment to send out to those that need it. Unfortunately this has initially resulted in a confused situation with various types of equipment in circulation, no quality control and no distribution network.

Recently DATA (Design & Technology Association) and CLEAPS have together issued guidance on the production of PPE along with three preferred designs and a useful list of suppliers. They have also guidance on the distribution of the PPE through a website that is working to ensure that the equipment gets to where it is needed. You can find that information here – https://www.data.org.uk/news/dt-association-nhs-ppe-manufacture-guidance/

As COVID-19 continues to grip the country it is fantastic to see ordinary people doing everything that they can to help. The mobilisation of schools to produce this much needed equipment is highly commendable and is an example of the collective effort needed to see us through this.
